To prepare your company HST/GST remittance, you must first print your HST/GST report F.9
- Enter the Start Date
- Enter the End Date
- Select Detail for Report Type
- Tax Account HST
- The last page of the HST/GST report gives you a breakdown of the tax by section.
- To post your HST/GST invoice, go into Post Supplier Invoices 5.1.,
- select your Receiver General supplier, CRA
- post the invoice using the information from the last page of your HST/GST report for the current period.
NOTE: Date this invoice for the end of the period you are remitting for. You can date the cheque for the date you are paying it, however by dating the invoice for the last date of the period, you will clear out the HST/GST account balances for your next report.
The total amount of the invoice will be the Net Remit. Total at the end of the report. Enter the account numbers and amounts that printed on the last page of your F.9 report. - When you are ready to cut the cheque, go into Issue General Cheque 5.2., and select the outstanding invoice for payment.
Processing a HST/GST Refund
If you are receiving a refund, please perform the following steps:
- For the purposes of this example, we have assumed that your HST/GST Report (F.9) is showing $1,500 for tax collected and $2,000 for input tax credits.
- Go to F.1.1. Post a New Journal Entry.
- Enter the journal entry as follows, and date it for the last date of the period you are remitting for:
DR TAX COLLECTED ACCOUNT 2240 $ +1500.00
CR TAX ITC PAID ACCOUNT 2240-1 $ - 2000.00
DR A/R OTHER ACCOUNT 1132 $ + 500.00 - The goal of posting this journal entry is the same as when you would normally post an invoice, you are attempting to clear the balance from both tax accounts, as shown on your HST/GST report.
- When you receive the cheque from Revenue Canada, you must enter it as a "Cash Receipt" 4.2 Instead of entering a trade #, click on "Miscellaneous C/R". Enter the amount of the cheque, but do not enter an amount in the Tax Included field, your tax entries have been already posted in the above journal entry. Post this entry against Account #1132. This entry will post the amount of the cheque into your general bank account, and zero the balance in Account #1132.
