When accessing a prior year file, you may receive one or both of two popups:
Upgrade Notification
Because prior year files are configured for prior year versions of AccountEdge, to open a prior year file in the current, upgraded version for the current year, you will need to upgrade the file.
Step 1: navigate to your prior year file in your File Manager and make a backup copy of the file (duplicate the file and then add the word "original" or "backup" to the file name.
Step 2: allow AE to upgrade the non-backup version
This will allow you to open the prior year file in your upgraded version of AE.
Password Notification
You may also encounter an prior year file that does not respond to your current password; this means that in that prior year, the password to AccountEdge was different. This is the AccountEdge system password that was effective at the end of that fiscal year. You may find that the password has not been recorded or transferred forward in time.
